The Story
“He loves, he loves me not.” “She loves me, she loves me not.” These words have left many a lovelorn mouth hoping to divine affections one plucked petal at a time. This playful ritual shows how flowers have captivated, entranced, healed and foretold.
Flowers have long held symbolic meaning like love, luck and longevity—roses, peonies, and chrysanthemums—and those symbols have been used to convey coded messages to secret admirers, to seduce, and to cast spells. Jewelry has held a similar power with amulets and talismans being used to manifest desires, tell fortunes, and connect to a spiritual world beyond earth.
My work conflates these two realms combining them into depictions of objects that break the boundary of a singular function or meaning. At the same time, the luminescence of 24k gold leaf invokes its alchemical qualities and its enduring influence and attraction.
